Can the Sony PS2 Really Compete with the Wii? - Entertainment

The gaming console war is one of the most competitive around, the three main companies that battle it out are Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft, but the last two have not always been in the equation. The two giants used to be Nintendo and Sega, but the emergence of Sony and its PlayStation console in the 1990s wiped out rivals Sega who just could not compete. Sony was dominating the market and it looked as though they would never be beaten.

So why have they? Did Sony get greedy with its consoles? Or did people just get fed up? PlayStation were moving on to their next generation console which was to be called PS2, there closest rival Nintendo released a somewhat terrible attempt to counter attack with the GameCube. But then out of no where Microsoft emerged and released a new games console called the Xbox, although this did sell very well, it still did not compete with the PS2.

Again as years progressed the next batch of consoles were set to be released. Microsoft got in there early with a powerful console which was reasonably priced and a great selection of titles, Nintendo blew us all away with the innovative Wii, but Sony was lagging behind, Xbox and Wii were building up there client base and selling millions. When Sony did finally release the PS3 there was a huge price tag slapped onto it, I mean it was literally the same as the Xbox 360 graphic wise, so why fork out more?

Sony has lost their foothold on the market and have recently announced that they have reduced the PS2 price to compete with the Wii. I mean come on Sony; do you really think that the PS2, an older generation console can compete with the new generation? There is simply no way that I personally would buy a PS2 when I could buy a Wii for a little more. The PS2 is a decade old and on its way out, so why does Sony not give in and reduce the price of their PS3? Other wise they may see themselves experiencing the same fate that Sega did. Sony really need to get back into the market and quite quickly in fact, because in a few years when the new generation consoles are launched no one is even going to bother about the PS4 because Microsoft and Nintendo would have built up such a huge user base.
