Sonic Team Working With Dimps for Sonic 4 - Entertainment - Video Games

Earlier this week, rumors began surfacing about Dimps taking charge of developing the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog 4 game coming to the Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, WiiWare and Iphone. However, Sega was quick to hush that rumor, now stating that Dimps will not be working alone on the project, but working along side the Sonic Team studio.

For those of you who are fans of the game but not video game industry savvy, this can be seen as pretty bad news. To be blunt, the Sonic Team Studio is responsible for many of the crappy Sonic remakes that have been made retail over the past decade or so. The idea of sticking a gun in the hand of Shadow or trying to compete with Mario Kart, mainly their idea. They ripped this classic from its roots and failed to modernize it well in pretty much every way.

Dimps, how ever, is an Osaka based video game development company that has gave birth to many of the better Sonic games to be released. They are known for works such as the Sonic Advance franchise that managed to stick to its roots and please modern gamers alike. Dimps is a much more capable developer, so when this rumor, stating Dimps Will Develop Sonic 4, first came about, retro and modern gamers alike began to get excited all over.

It is almost disappointing to know that the Sonic Team studio will still have a say in the game. I think a smart move would be to change developers of the game completely to see a complete overhaul of the series as we know it. Maybe bring it into a direction that will bring back the old fan base. Possibly bring back the days when Sonic was a household name for gamers. But until then, we can only speculate how well Dimps will work with Sonic Team studio for development of Sonic 4.
