Features That SOCOM 4 Needs to Have - Entertainment - Video Games

In 2011, Sony will release an exclusive PlayStation 3 game in the franchise of one of the most popular online console shooters last generation. This game is known as SOCOM 4. Odds are that this game will turn out to be a major success. However, there are some issues Sony needs to address in order to make this game appeal to both the core audience and the new mainstream audience. The following are some features that SOCOM 4 will need to include.

Lobby System - With shooters like Call of Duty, the idea of having lobbies for video games have been dropping. However, the SOCOM games have had lobby systems and they always turned out to be popular. This makes finding the right game to play with your friend a lot easier and is something that SOCOM 4 should offer.

Push to Talk Communication - Just about all online console games have support for using a headset to communicate with other players. However, most games use an open microphone system so that every time you open your mouth, people can hear you. The original SOCOM games did not do this and instead incorporated a system where you press a button to talk. This worked a lot better so you do not have to hear people talking to their family members or yelling out profanity at the television.

Skilled-Based Ranking - A lot of online games have some sort of ranking system. However, most ranking systems are usually based on your kill/death ratio. Instead, SOCOM 4 will need to introduce a ranking that focuses on all aspects of the game, not something as simple as your killing rate. A ranking system that encourages players to do more than just sit back and kill the enemy is something that many players will love to have.

Overall, there is a lot that Sony can do to make SOCOM 4 a success this year. However, a lobby system, push to talk communication, and skilled-based ranking are features that just about everyone have been asking for. With these features, SOCOM 4 can appeal to both the core and mainstream audience.
